About the Wine Committee

The Wine Committee supports our mission throughout the year by hosting an international wine competition with over 1,000 entries judged over three days by a highly experienced panel that selects the award-winning wines. A Champion Wine Auction & Dinner is held in January as well as Uncork & Unwind Wine events in the community. During the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, the committee hosts the H-E-B sponsored Wine Garden, which includes wines by the taste and glass and bottle plus weekend educational seminars and wine demos throughout the 18 days.

2025 - 2026 Champion Wine Competition

The 15th Annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Wine Competition was held on Monday, Sept 29, 2025 followed by a Championship Round on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. An experienced and professional panel of 60 judges attended and judged 921 wine entries. Nine champion judges attended the following day to evaluate 64 double gold wines to crown the Top 15 Champions listed in the press release sent to the media.

The Championship wines will be celebrated and auctioned at our annual Champion Wine Auction & Dinner scheduled for Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at the San Antonio Shrine Auditorium. Additionally, these wines will be displayed and sold in the Wine Garden sponsored by H-E-B on the rodeo grounds during the 77th annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, February 12 - March 1, 2026. The H-E-B Wine Department is committed to supporting the competition and will be featuring many of the Champion Wines in their top San Antonio stores throughout the month of February 2026. Champion wines will be recognized in the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo local media publications and SASSR website and social media.

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is “a volunteer organization that emphasizes agriculture and education to develop the youth of Texas.” Since inception, over $267 million has been committed to educate the youth of Texas. This year, more than 21,275 Texas students have been educationally impacted. Proceeds from the Wine Events benefit the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Scholarship Fund with a portion for the advancement of viticulture.
