About Us

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Cowgirl Cavvietta is a leadership program for young women who will serve as rodeo ambassadors through community outreach, mentorship, and a deep respect for the heritage of South Texas and the Western lifestyle. Cavvietta participants uphold the values that define the arena and the land alike: grit, tradition, education, and heart.

As part of the mission of San Antonio Rodeo—a volunteer-driven organization committed to agriculture and education for the youth of Texas—the Cowgirl Cavvietta is a scholarship program that empowers participants to lead with purpose, serve their communities, and to advocate for the future of agriculture.

The Selection Process

The Cowgirl Cavvietta selection process consists of two distinct phases designed to evaluate candidates.

Phase 1 – Online Submission (Preliminary Round)
Phase 1 serves as the initial screening process and is completed virtually. Candidates are required to submit:
  • A filmed introduction video highlighting their background, leadership experience, and desire to serve as a Cowgirl Cavvietta.
  • A recorded horsemanship pattern, following the official pattern provided.
  • A hotlap with a flag, demonstrating control, confidence, and arena presence.
All submissions are carefully reviewed and scored by the selection committee. Candidates advancing to Phase 2 will be notified in mid-July.

Phase 2 – Live Tryout & Interview (Final Round)
Phase 2 will take place in early August and consists of an in-person evaluation designed to assess adaptability, composure, and ambassador skills under live conditions.
  • Each candidate will randomly draw both the horse they will ride and their judging order.
  • Candidates will be given 20 minutes to warm up and familiarize themselves with their assigned horse in the arena.
  • Once called, candidates will complete the official pattern provided.
  • Immediately following the pattern, each candidate will perform a hotlap.
After the horsemanship portion, candidates will participate in a formal interview conducted by a panel of judges. The interview allows the panel to evaluate communication skills, professionalism, character, and readiness to represent the Cowgirl Cavvietta program and the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo throughout the year.
