What is Team Penning?

In this competition there is a combination of three horses and riders that work together using their combined athleticism, horsemanship, and general “cowiness” to separate particular cows humanely and herd them into the penning area in under 60 seconds. This event displays the most skilled horses and riders that can find their specified cow, separate it from the herd and move it to the penning area without ever touching the animal.

About the USTPA

The United States Team Penning Association, Inc. (USTPA) is the premier sports organization for competitive Team Penning and Ranch Sorting. The USTPA was formed as a member-owned non-profit association in 1993 to promote Team Penning and Ranch Sorting across the United States and internationally, with standardized rules and a rider rating system designed to provide fair competition for beginners to experienced riders.
