Exhibitors of all ages may participate in the Open Purebred Gilt Show representing eight of the most popular breeds in the swine industry. These include Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, Poland China, Spot, and Yorkshire. Gilts are shown within their breed by age. Class winners vie for breed champion honors. Each breed has different characteristics that make them valuable to the industry. Gilts are judged on their ability to be productive sows once they become mothers.
