Our Commitment to Education and our Educational Partners

Education is vital to the continued success of the American agricultural industry. Since inception, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has supported Texas youth by providing a venue for competition and a marketplace for their agricultural and livestock projects.

In 1984, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo’s Executive Committee began encouraging 4-H and FFA students to continue their interest in agricultural careers in college. This led to the creation of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo's Scholarship Fund, which in its first year, awarded 15 four-year scholarships totaling $90,000 to deserving students entering Texas colleges.

From that modest beginning, the program has expanded so that more than 9,800 Texas students have now benefited from the scholarships. Currently, all 254 Texas counties are represented in the program.

To date, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo's educational commitment totals more than $198 million with $12 million committed in 2018 in the form of scholarships, grants, endowments, auctions, a calf scramble program and show premiums paid to youth. Because of the dedication and efforts of over 6,000 volunteers, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is able to provide financial support to Bexar County and Texas youth seeking higher education as well as positively influence the agriculture industry in Texas.

Our Educational Partners, represented by the various colleges and universities that we align with across the state, are an intrinsic component of our educational commitment. These Educational Partners help fulfill the S.A.L.E. mission, “A volunteer organization that emphasizes agriculture and education to develop the youth of Texas.”

Scholarship Eligibility

The San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. (S.A.L.E.) is strictly a donor and does not participate in the selection of scholarship applicants. Students who wish to apply for S.A.L.E. funded scholarships through organizations such as 4-H, FFA and major colleges and universities throughout the state of Texas must meet certain criteria which may include the following: be a Texas resident; graduate from a Texas High School; attend an accredited Texas college or university.
