Ambassador Committee

Frances Ferro, Chairman
The Ambassador Committee arranges and participates in goodwill tours. The committee promotes the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo throughout South and Central Texas developing interest, increasing participation and attendance at all SALE events.   During the rodeo, this committee also helps other committees in a variety of ways.

Auction Committee

Ronnie Urbanczyk, Chairman
The Auction Committee solicits cash pledges and pre-sale orders for the purchase of animals during the Junior Livestock Auction. The Auction Committee provides individuals and businesses the opportunity to financially support our young market animal exhibitors in their pursuit of education in agriculture and agribusiness.

Bar-B-Que Committee

David White, Chairman
The Bar-B-Que Committee produces and coordinates the Annual BBQ Cook-off & Concert held the Saturday prior to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. The committee also holds fundraisers to promote the Junior Livestock Auction.

Calf Scramble Committee

Renee Wheat, Chairman
The Calf Scramble Committee coordinates the Calf Scramble event held during each rodeo performance. The committee is dedicated to the support of FFA and 4-H students in the purchase of a breeding animal to be raised and brought back to the Stock Show the following year. In addition, the committee organizes and oversees the Boots 'N Shoot, a fundraising event held in May to support the Calf Scramble program.

Communications Committee

Bruce Hathaway, Chairman
The Communications Committee consists of volunteers and media personnel whose function is to provide information and publicity which promotes the events of the Stock Show & Rodeo to the general public. In addition to developing public service announcements for radio and television, the committee is the voice for announcements on the grounds and frequently serves as Master of Ceremonies at many of the annual fundraising events.

Cowboy Church Committee

Clint Swindall, Chairman
The Cowboy Church Committee provides an opportunity for fellowship and coordinates a non-denominational worship service held on Sundays during the Stock Show & Rodeo. A special effort is made to reach out to rodeo contestants and exhibitors who are away from home and unable to worship at their home churches, as well as to SALE volunteers who give their time on Sundays during the seventeen day event.

Exhibits Committee

Charlene Roeber, Chairman
Over 600 commercial exhibitors provide SALE patrons with a diverse shopping experience. Farm and ranching equipment and supplies as well as the latest fashions in western clothing, furniture, jewelry and art are all exhibited during the show. Members of the Exhibits Committee assure continued excellence, quality and diversity of the exhibits and the exhibit venues.

Fajita Corral Committee

In 1986, the Van De Walle Family was invited by Mary Nan West to cook fajitas during the Stock Show & Rodeo to raise money for the then very young SALE Scholarship Fund. From meager beginnings in a 12ft x 12ft booth, the food tent has now grown to utilize a 66ft x 66ft tent and has raised an impressive $1,300,000.00! While there are approximately 60 core volunteers that make up the steering committee, the Fajita Corral Committee is comprised of nearly 400 public volunteers that put in as many hours as they can during the course of the event in February. The official name of the committee is the Fajita Corral Committee but not forgetting its roots and as a testament to the Van De Walle Family, the corral will always be referred to as the "Van De Walle Fajita Corral." "In our hearts, we have always felt like we were a part of the SALE family, but with an invitation from the SALE Executive Committee to become an official committee, we truly feel that we are now part of other loyal and committed volunteers belonging to the SALE family," Elaine Van De Walle Thompson said.

Fall Fest Committee

Michael Cotugno, Chairman
The Fall Fest Committee sponsors the annual Fall Fest event, a competition and celebration of all S.A.L.E. Committees.   Each year on the last weekend in September, the Committee produces a full day of fun filled events that include Mutton Bustin and an Antique Tractor Pull hosted by Tri-County Antique Pullers. When evening rolls around a Casino night filled with great food, Las Vegas type gambling for fun and live and silent auctions occurs. To add some spice to this event, a new activity will be unveiled in 2009. A "Basket Mania" fundraising event will add to the Fall Fest festivities. The Basket Mania will truly give committees an opportunity to be creative with what they auction off. The judging and awards will be held during casino night.  This year the BBQ Brisket Cook-off and Texas Hold'em Tournament will be eliminated. The proceeds from this great event go to the S.A.L.E. Scholarship Fund.   The Fall Fest Committee also oversees the Cowboy Classic Golf Tournament in the month of February during the annual Stock Show & Rodeo.  All proceeds from the golf tournament go to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund.

Family Fair Committee

The Family Fair Committee helps organize and support the events and entertainment patrons have come to enjoy each year during the Stock Show and Rodeo. The Family Fair is comprised of the carnival, educational displays and pavilions such as Texas Trails, Texas World of Agriculture and similar venues. The Petting Zoo, Budweiser Clydesdales, the Junkyard Dog Saloon and the chuck wagons are all part of the Family Fair attractions. Along with assisting all the exhibitors in the Family Fair, the committee is responsible for the landscape and decorations in Family Fair.

Go Rodeo Roundup Committee

The Go Rodeo Roundup Committee hosts the Annual Go Rodeo Roundup held in October. The Go Rodeo Roundup features top country & western entertainers, great food, beverages and a live and silent auction. The Go Rodeo Roundup serves to build excitement and get the public ready for rodeo! Proceeds raised from the event go to the SALE Scholarship Fund.

Go Western Gala Committee

Dinah Covert, Chairman
The Go Western Gala Committee produces one of the major fundraising events for the SALE Scholarship Fund. The Annual Go Western Gala is held in January and provides a spectacular night of entertainment, dining and dancing. Country and western entertainers are showcased while patrons feast on excellent Texas cuisine. The committee also hosts the SALE Wine Competition, wine tasting and wine auction.

Grounds and Security Committee

Brenda Harris, Chairman
The Grounds and Security Committee has the task of keeping track of the endless stream of people and cars that flow through the Coliseum grounds and SBC Center. The committee is also responsible for distribution of parking stickers, gate passes, parking spaces and the overall security of rodeo patrons.

Hall of Fame Committee

Windy Miller, Chairman
The Hall of Fame Committee is responsible for gathering and organizing all information regarding the history of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. The committee hosts the Annual Hall of Fame Induction and selects individuals to become Hall of Fame inductees who have contributed to the development and success of the Stock Show & Rodeo. The committee has recently taken on the task of commissioning a noted western artist to produce the Annual Rodeo Limited Edition Souvenir Print.

Horse Show Committee

Duane Frerich, Chairman
The Horse Show Committee coordinates and manages the horse shows, horse sales and llama shows during the Stock Show. The committee also handles the unloading, stalling and loading of horse show exhibitors and PRCA contestants and their animals. This includes checking animal health papers on all horses entering through the West Gate. The committee operates the feed store that supplies needs for the horse, livestock exhibitors and PRCA contestants as well as petting zoo and family fair animals. The committee also educates the public about the horse and its economic impact on society through the Horse Center.

Hospitality Committee

Patrick Kelly, Chairman
The Hospitality Committee extends a warm welcome to guests as they enter and move about the grounds. It is the goal of the Hospitality Committee to ensure that all guests enjoy their rodeo experience as much as possible. This is accomplished by being highly visible, extremely helpful and very approachable. The committee supports the efforts of the SALE Marketing Department by providing attendees with up-to-date information, schedules, maps as well as aiding guests in locating their destinations, ATM machines, lost family members and more. The Hospitality Committee embodies the true spirit of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo by delivering extraordinary service with a smile. It is the responsibility of the committee to prevent any guest from leaving the grounds unhappy or disappointed whenever possible.

International Committee

Johnny Canavan III, Chairman
The International Committee strengthens relationships with leaders of Mexico and other countries with agricultural interests. The information provided and relationships built by the committee benefit and promote SALE and the agricultural industry as a whole.

Livestock Committee

Bill Jerman, Chairman
The Livestock Committee is composed of a large group of hard working volunteers with a special interest in livestock and young people. Members prepare the judging arenas, set up podiums, sound systems, and chairs for shows in each of the many livestock barns.

Medical Committee

Dr. Keith Markey, Chairman
The Medical Committee consists of dedicated volunteers from the medical profession who lend their time and expertise to the health, well being and enjoyment of rodeo contestants, volunteers, staff and patrons of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.

New Frontier Club Committee

Ricky Collier, Chairman
The New Frontier Club Committee provides the support and oversight required to provide comfortable restaurants and clubs for rodeo patrons, volunteers and life members. There are public and private venues for guests and Rodeo fans to enjoy during the Stock Show and Rodeo. Proceeds from club fees support the SALE Scholarship Fund and Junior Livestock Auction.

Operations Committee

Richard Martinez, Chairman
The Operations Committee supervises the operations of S.A.L.E. events and maintains the facilities associated with these events.  This includes set-up and tear-down of the rodeo arena inside the AT&T Center and facades and signage throughout the grounds.  Additional responsibilities include assistance with construction projects and acquisition and distribution of supplies and equipment needed by volunteers during various fundraising events and the annual Stock Show & Rodeo.  Whether it's hauling the dirt into the AT&T Center for the rodeo arena, repairing plumbing and fencing, installing signs, setting up a stage or hauling off trash, the Operations Committee is ready and willing to assist!

Public Affairs Committee

Steve Alwais, Chairman
The Public Affairs Committee has the responsibility of gathering information from patrons for a marketing survey. The committee is also responsible for the media check-in and transport of all media crews. In addition, the Public Affairs Committee acts as a liaison to the city, county and military organizations encouraging their participation in the Stock Show & Rodeo and its annual events.

Raffle Ticket Committee

Terry Tschirhart, Chairman
The Raffle Ticket Committee sells tickets for the annual raffle held during the final performance of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. The committee supports Texas youth by raising funds for the purchase of animals during the Junior Livestock Auction held the last Friday and Saturday of the Show.

Rodeo Contestant  Committee

Tracy Adams, Chairman
The Rodeo Contestant Hospitality Committee provides a warm Texas size welcome to all PRCA and WPBR contestants during the annual Stock Show and Rodeo.  As a committee, we strive to provide a family environment for the contestants while they are competing in San Antonio.  We want them to be nourished and comfortable in cozy and friendly surroundings.  We also host a contestant autograph session, which allows interaction with their fans.  We also provide a positive rodeo experience for the younger cowboys and cowgirls (through Mutton Bustin) to ensure future contestants.

Rodeo Program Committee

Randy Stout, Chairman
The Rodeo Program Committee solicits advertisers for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Souvenir Program. The annual souvenir program serves as a comprehensive and complete information source on the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. The souvenir program provides "behind-the-scenes" details on people, places and events. Proceeds raised from advertising sold in the Rodeo Program go to the SALE Scholarship Fund.

Rodeo Ticket Committee

E. Duane Heady, Chairman
The responsibility of helping fill the SBC Center with rodeo fans is the goal of the Rodeo Ticket Committee. The committee actively solicits new customers, both corporate and individual, with a variety of group and season ticket packages. The committee is also focusing on youth group interaction with presales in the carnival and ground admissions ticket areas.

SALE for Kids Committee

Judd Kraft, Chairman
The SALE for Kids Committee was created in 2001 as a fundraising committee. They produce the SALE for Kids event, an evening of food and fellowship along with a silent and live auction. Proceeds from the event benefit the Junior Livestock Auction and the SALE Scholarship Fund.

SALE Golf Tournament Committee

Rita Stich, Chairman
The San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. has a new committee to help raise money for scholarships. Formally known as the Go Western Gala Golf Tournament Committee the new SALE Invitational Golf Tournament Committee had its first two-day event in September 2008 at the Flying L Golf Resort.  With a roster of almost 150 volunteers, this first year golf tournament was highly successful in registering 50 plus teams and some 250 golfers. 

School Tours Committee

Karla Friesenhahn, Chairman
The School Tours Committee offers a fun and educational program designed for young people to learn about rodeo, livestock and the important role agriculture plays in the economy. Kindergarten through third grade students are guided around the Stock Show & Rodeo by local FFA, FCCLAA and 4-H high school tour guides. The students get a taste of Texas heritage and witness first-hand the fun and excitement offered at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.

Souvenir Committee

Barbie Puckett, Chairman
The Souvenir Committee is responsible for researching and purchasing the souvenir products that will be emblazoned with the Stock Show and Rodeo logo. This official merchandise is used to display and promote the show nationally on items such as magnets, coffee cups, t-shirts, hats and jackets. They also man the souvenir booths throughout the grounds which are open during the show to provide the public with this merchandise commemorating the show each year. Proceeds benefit the SALE Scholarship Fund.

Trail Ride Committee

Than "TW" Wheat, Chairman
The Trail Ride Committee plans and carries out the Annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Trail Ride. More than 3,500 riders give up the comforts of home and take to the open road on horseback and in wagons to ride to the show. From 12 locations in South and Central Texas, these riders promote fellowship and horseback riding as they make their way to the show with the ride concluding in grand fashion inside the AT&T center.

Western Art Committee

Kathryn Hutchinson, Chairman
Further expanding SALE's efforts to assist youth, the Western Art Committee was formed in 1996 to create a program to inspire our young artists by offering scholarships to them and offering a venue for them to showcase their work in competition and auction. The proceeds from the Western Art Auction benefit the S.A.L.E. Scholarship Fund.

Wildlife Committee

Kim Moore, Chairman
The Wildlife Committee will develop a growing program of education to a defined target audience so as to inform, inspire and engage them into becoming active participants in the management and enjoyment of the Wildlife of Texas.  Initially, the program will begin on a limited scale during the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and will be expanded, strategically, according to a three year plan.  The committee will seek to identify and draw in new resources to the Stock Show that currently exist within the Wildlife community in Texas and seek ways to align with them, collaboratively, for the success of the program.  It is anticipated that there will be natural and long lasting partnerships that will be established though the partnerships, research and joint efforts.  The committee will work diligently to coordinate with the great work of so many other SALE Committees and associated organizations already taking place and it will be important to be very intentional and strategic about our plans.
