StarKeith Martin Named to Pro Rodeo Hall of FameStar

San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Executive Director and CEO to be inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Keith Martin has given over 40 years of service to the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. (S.A.L.E.), a volunteer organization that has committed over $105 million to educating the youth of Texas. S.A.L.E. produces the largest single event in the area – the annual San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Martin has been the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer since 1989 and had been a volunteer for 20 years prior to that. Because of his affiliation with S.A.L.E., Martin has had a longtime relationship with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (P.R.C.A.), the sanctioning body of professional rodeo in North America.

In 2005 Martin, who is also a former Frost Bank officer, became the Treasurer of the PRCA. In 2006, he joined the PRCA Board of Directors. In 2007, Martin became Chairman of the Board. During his first term as Chairman, the former PRCA Commissioner unexpectedly resigned. To minimize the negative impact associated with the resignation, Martin stepped in and served as the Chief Executive Officer and Interim Commissioner (2007-08). Once a new commissioner was in place, he returned to his role as the Chairman of the Board, a position in which he remains today. He is a member of the board of trustees for the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy and is a member of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Committee. All of Martin’s work relating to the PRCA is on a volunteer basis; his service to the PRCA helps ensure the future of professional rodeo in San Antonio and the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, an event that provides millions of dollars of economic impact.

Since 2003, The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has experienced unprecedented growth and success and is currently the only regular season $1 million PRCA rodeo. The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo has also been selected the PRCA’s Large Indoor Rodeo Committee of the Year in each of the last six years.

“I was very surprised and simultaneously very humbled and excited,” Martin said upon learning of his selection. “I was not expecting this. In fact, I didn’t even remember that it was that time of year again until (PRCA Commissioner) Karl (Stressman) called with the news.

“It took a while to sink in. Having been involved with the sport all these years, I know what the ProRodeo Hall of Fame means to the people in our industry. I walk through the Hall every time I’m in Colorado Springs, but I never really thought about being in the Hall with the great men and women of our industry.”

The induction ceremony will be July 16 in the garden area of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Along with Keith Martin, inductees include the late three-time World Champion Cowboy, Burel Mulkey; two-time World Champion Bareback Rider, Lan LaJeunesse; the late three-time PRCA Bucking Horse of the Year, War Paint; trick rider/roper, J.W. Stoker and Deadwood (S.D.) Days of ’76 rodeo.

The induction will be the centerpiece of a weeklong celebration that will include a Special Rodeo at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame arena on July 13, the Cowboy Ball at the Hall of Fame on July 15 and a ProRodeo Hall of Fame golf tournament at the Country Club of Colorado on July 18. Following the induction on July 16 will be the third annual Commissioner’s Classic Team Roping.

The San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. (S.A.L.E.) is a volunteer organization that emphasizes agriculture and education to develop the youth of Texas. S.A.L.E. has a rich tradition and history of stewardship to the community, agriculture industry and youth of Texas. With a grand total of over $105 million committed to education, a clear vision of the future, a successful past and continual dedication from over 5,000 volunteers, this nonprofit organization will continue to provide wholesome family entertainment and be a pillar of strength and support to the youth of Texas.
