Educational Commitment tops the news!
This year the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has committed over $9 million to educate Texas youth. This amount represents scholarships, grants, endowments, junior livestock auctions, Calf Scramble program, and show premiums paid to the youth of Texas. This amount represents a record commitment, topping 2010's $8.5 million by an additional $500,000. This brings the total that the organization has committed since inception to $113 million. Keith Martin, Executive Director and CEO, made the announcement during the organization's annual membership meeting May 17th at the Expo Hall of the Freeman Coliseum/AT&T Center grounds. These astounding numbers included 245 individual scholarships awarded to Horse Show and Livestock participants during the 2011 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo!
Mr. Martin commented "This record year of giving shows our continuing support of education in our community and the state of Texas. S.A.L.E. is proud to provide higher education for those who will stand as leaders in agriculture and life sciences in the future."

Community of Churches for Social Action Scholarship Banquet
The San Antonio Livestock Exposition, Inc. has a long standing history of awarding scholarships to students who choose to pursue jobs in the fields of agriculture and other related medical and scientific fields. The Community of Churches for Social Action (CCSA) is an organization made up of a coalition of interdenominational churches who have come together to enhance and enrich the condition of our city by being a prophetic voice, and providing services such as economic development, housing, education, and supportive services to those traditionally under-served and or live in disadvantaged communities. As part of its mission to support and enrich the community that helps it thrive each year, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has contributed to this organization's educational giving by providing scholarships to be given out to individuals selected by CCSA. Their annual banquet was held at the Omni Hotel Colonnade this year on Friday, May 20th. Mayor Julian Castro was present to thank the organization and its donors for what they are doing for underpriveleged youth in the community. S.A.L.E. was represented by President Fred Petmecky and various other Volunteers and Staff members.
