Junior Breeding Swine Show
Texas 4H and FFA members will exhibit over 1,000 purebred gilts in the Junior Breeding Swine Show representing eight of the most popular breeds in the swine industry. These include Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, Poland China, Spot, and Yorkshire. These six to eight month old gilts are shown within their breed by age. Class winners vie for breed champion honors. Those breed champions then compete for Supreme Champion. Each breed has different characteristics that make them valuable to the industry. Gilts are judged on their ability to be productive sows once they become mothers.
