
Horse Show Volunteer FAQs
How can I volunteer during the Horse Shows? You can join the Horse Show Commitee. The first step is to apply. You can find an application to volunteer here on our website: Go to the "Who We Are" menu, select "Volunteers", and select "General Information & Application". You'll find a link for the application there where you can print out the form and mail it in. If you do not have internet access or are unable to print the form, you can obtain one by calling the Horse Show Office at (210) 225-1309. The deadline for applying to become a volunteer is July 31st each year. Don't forget to indicate on your application that you would like to join the Horse Show Committee.
General Information FAQs
What are the stalls like? The stalls are 10' x 10' and are indoors.
If I have prepaid for stalls and passes will the stall reservations and passes be sent to me prior to my arrival at the show? No, prepaid stalls and passes will be distributed to you upon arrival at the Horse Arrival Station.
1. Do I have to pay for a stall if I am arriving and departing on the same day or if I will not be using it? Yes, all animals are required to have a stall for each show they are entered in.
Do I have to pay two separate stall fees if I am entered in NCHA Cutting and entered in cutting classes during the Quarter Horse Show? Yes, NCHA Cutting and the Quarter Horse Show are two separate events, therefore, you must pay a stall fee for each show/event you are entered in.
If I arrive before the posted arrival time for the show(s) that I am entered in, will I have the opportunity to stall my horse(s) in a stall on the grounds? No, if are in need of a stall(s) before/after the designated times of arrival/departure for your show, please call the Horse Show Office at (210) 225-1309 for a list of available stables in the area. 2. Can I bring my own personal shavings, extra feed and hay into the fair grounds? No, you can purchase shavings at the Stock Show Feed Store. Exhibitors may not bring excessive amounts of feed or hay onto the grounds. These supplies will be available for a reasonable price at the Feed Store from 6:00 am to Midnight. All proceeds go towards the S.A.L.E. Scholarship Fund.
3. What are the Health Requirements for Horses? Horses that originate in Texas: Must have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (also known as "Health Papers') -issued within 45 days and a completed VS Form 10-11 showing negative results to an official EIA (Equine Infectious Anemia) test (also known as a "Coggins" Test) within the previous 12 months OR must have a valid equine interstate passport or equine identification card and a completed VS Form 10-11 showing negative results to an official EIA test within the previous 6 months. Foals nursing a dam that has a negative Coggins Test within the past 12 months are exempt. TEST DOCUMENTATION MUST BE IN HAND, MUST BE SHOWN ON THE CERTIFICATE OF VETERINARY INSPECTION AND MUST NOT EXPIRE WHILE ON GROUNDS.

Horses that originate in a Tick-Quarantined Area: Must be accompanied by a certificate issued by an authorized representative of the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) showing the horse is free of infestation and exposure to fever ticks and has been dipped under supervision in an approved dipping solution immediately prior to shipment.
Horses that originate in a Scabies-Quarantined Area: Must be accompanied by an entry permit along with certification that the herd of origin is declared free of scabies or exposure to scabies and horses have either been dipped with approved dip or injected with Ivermectin.

Will there be Veterinarians, Farriers, & First Aid on the grounds? For the convenience of exhibitors, the stock show arranges to have veterinarians, farriers, and first aid available. Exhibitors are not required to use these suppliers. These suppliers do not donate their services or medications. Fees should be discussed before treatment. Locations for these services will be posted at the Horse Arrival Station, Horse Barn 2 Arena Office, and all unloading areas.
Are RV Hookups available on the grounds? No, there are no RV Hookups available on the grounds. There are two campsites within 2 miles of the grounds that have RV hookups: Dixie Kampground (210) 337-6501 and KOA Kampground (210) 224-9296.

Is there a warm-up arena? Yes, the outdoor warm-up arena is approximately 75' x 175'. During some shows an indoor 50' x 150' warm-up arena will be available.
What are the dimensions of the show arena in Horse Barn 2? The indoor show arena is 100' x 200'.
Will pets be allowed on the fairgrounds during the Stock Show & Rodeo? Pets of any kind will not be allowed on the grounds at any time because of safety and public health regulations. This rule will be strictly enforced and applies to exhibitors, their employees, and Stock Show visitiors.
Are we allowed to stay in our horse trailer on the grounds if it is equipped with living quarters? No, there will be a parking lot for exhibitors to drop their trailers, but you may not stay in your trailer on the grounds. You will need to take your trailer to one of the campgrounds near the grounds that has the facilities for trailers with living quarters if you intend to stay in your trailer.

Barrel Racing Events FAQs
Do I have to purchase a stall for my horse if I am not going to use it? Yes, each horse entered in the Barrel Racing Events must purchase a stall. We require all horses on the grounds to have a stall.
Is there a dress code for the Barrel Racing Events? Yes, a long sleeve shirt, boots, and hat are required.
How often is the ground worked during the barrel racing? Every five runs, the ground man drags the dirt.
Do you have to be a NBHA member to participate in the barrel racing? No, you don't have to be a NBHA member to particpate. All classes are open to NBHA members & non members alike. There will be any non member charges. To be eligibe for awards, you can join NBHA at the show or online at NBHA.com. Must have proof of membership at the show before awards are presented. If a non member places in an awards spot, the non member will win jackpot money but the awards will be given to the next eligible placing NBHA member. Youth 4D Barrels will be open to riders 18 & under as of January1, 2008. Senior 4D Barrels will be 40 & over as of day of show. The show will be run by NBHA rules where applicable unless otherwise posted, all other rules will be set by the show staff; all staff decisions will be final.
Are the Barrel Racing Events run with a center alley or a side gate? The Barrel Racing Events are run with a center alley.
When is the deadline for entering the barrel races? Entries must be postmarked by January 10th. Entries after this date will be accepted online only. The last date to enter online without a late fee is January 20th. The last date to enter online is January 25th and a $10 late fee per horse will apply. All late entries must be received by January 20th. Entries at the show will incur a $25 late fee per horse. Additional runs may be added at the show for no additional charge if horse is pre-registered. All entries added at the show will run at the end of each race. All entries at the show will be paid in cash only. Open exhibitons can be entered upon arrival and check in with the show secretary; there is no deadline.
Llama Show FAQs
What are the health requirements for llamas? Each llama entering the grounds must have the following: a certificate of veterinary inspection issued within 30 days, negative brucellosis test results issued within the past six month for all llamas 18 months and older (all neutered llamas are exempt from the brucellosis test requirement), and a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test within the past six months for all llamas 18 months and older. There will be no exceptions to any health requirements. These time restrictions must not expire while animal is on the grounds and documents must be in hand. All animals must be in accordance with current TAHC rules (Texas Animal Health Commmission) and requirements are subject to change. Have your veterinarian check requirements before issuing health papers.
When can I check in for the Llama Show? Arrival time begins at 8:00 am the day prior to the Llama Show. You must be stalled and ready to show by 7:30 am on the day you are entered to attend the judge's meeting.
NCHA Cutting FAQs
When will the draw be posted for the NCHA Cutting? The draw will be posted at 5:00 pm the day prior to the class.
Do I have to be a member of NCHA to enter the competition? Yes, all owners of horses as well as riders must be members in good standing with the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) to participate in the competition. The show secretary will ask to see your current membership card before you are allowed to show.
AQHA/Open Versatility Ranch Horse Competition FAQs
What is the maximum amount of entries that will be taken for the Versatility Ranch Horse Competition? We will take a maximum of 25 entries. Entries will be taken as we receive them until 25 have been received. All entries received after 25 has been reached will be returned to the sender.
Quarter Horse Show FAQs
When is the deadline to enter the Quarter Horse Show? Entries must be postmarked by January 10th. Entries after this date will be accepted online only. Donkey & Mule Show FAQs
Which club is associated with the Donkey & Mule Show? The Donkey & Mule Show is sanctioned by the Gulf Coast Donkey and Mule ASSociation. Donkeys and Mules will be judged and shown in accordance with the rules of the "Texas Donkey and Mule Organizations Rule Book" 2007 Edition. All accumulated points will count towards "Asspiring to Greatness" year end awards.
What other information should I know about the Donkey & Mule Show? If you plan to show in any of the American Council of Spotted Asses classes (ACOSA), please remember to have the animal's registration papers from the association.
Appaloosa Horse Show FAQs
Which associations is the Appaloosa Horse Show approved by? The Appaloosa Horse Show is approved by the Appaloosa Horse Club, Inc., Texas Appaloosa Horse Club, Texas Appaloosa Cutting Horse Association, and South Texas Appaloosa Breeders.
Can I submit my Appaloosa Horse Show entries online? Yes, you can enter online through the Horse Show entry system. However, if you are mailing your entries you will mail them to the South Texas Appaloosa Breeders, P.O. Box 64027, Pipe Creek, TX 78063. Open Horse Show FAQs
Does my horse have to be registered with any associations to enter the Open Horse Show? No, any unregistered or registered horse can be entered in the Open Horse Show. The show will be judged according to American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) rules.
What is the dress code for the Open Horse Show? Proper Western Attire: boots, hat, and long sleeve shirt is required. In English classes, proper English attire should be worn.
