PRCA Freestyle Bullfight Event- This event will put bullfighters (sometimes referred to as Rodeo clowns, but known as bullfighters in Rodeo terms) to the test for 70 seconds to impress the judges with their skill to outwit an agile bull. You can see this new event after the PRCA Xtreme Bulls performance at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25. The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo will be the first Rodeo in many years to host a PRCA Freestyle Bullfight event.
College Rodeo Showdown- The 29 Southern and Southwestern Schools in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association will be invited to compete in 9 events of the College Rodeo Showdown. Events such as barrel racing, bull riding and breakway roping will highlight college rodeo athletes and the programs they are a part of. The all-around male and female athletes and teams will get the chance to compete for added money!
College Ranch Rodeo Throwdown- Texas A&M and Texas Tech stock horse teams will compete in four different events to gain bragging rights. The events will include Milk Race, Rescue Race and more. Special appearances will be made by the university spirit groups to help cheer on the contestants! Proceeds from the College Rodeo Showdown and College Ranch Rodeo Throwdown will go toward the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Scholarship Fund.
Attractions and Shows
Agricadabra- Located in Buckaroo Farms, Agricadabra is an agricultural based magic show that entertains and educates about the importance of agriculture in Texas. Agricadaba features Brad Matchett and his magic rabbit, Houdini! Expect a few tricks, some singing and a little dancing with the help of the crowd.
Innovation Station- A fun-filled, interactive attraction in the Family Fair area, Innovation Station provides a universe of discovery for participants to build, create, ignite and explore. Features include rock and mineral identification, demonstrations with lightening and electricity as well as activities that will enable visitors to showcase both creative skills and brainpower. Participants will even be able to build a Lego car and race it down a 38 foot long track!
Kids Pedal Tractor Pull- Put the pedal to the metal with the infamous Kids Pedal Tractor Pull. A new fast-paced interactive show for children ages 4 to 12 will put their abilities to the test on a modified pedal tractor. The further they pedal, the harder it gets. Come cheer on these contestants in this new fast paced interactive show.
Sandy Feet- Needing an escape to the beach? Let Lucinda Wierenga and her team take you there! Wierenga will be creating sand sculptures as well as lead sand castle workshops. Throughout the show, participants will learn about the coastal region of Texas and may get the chance to build a sand castle in one of the two daily workshops. Zoomagination- “Where the wild kingdom meets your imagination!” This exhibit will focus on the interaction of animals, humans and the environment while featuring various exotic animals. Zoomagination is an educational and entertaining live animal program for all ages.
Ag Mechanics Sales Competition and Marketplace-Independent of the current Junior Agricultural Mechanics Show, this exciting new competition will test the craftsmanship and salesmanship skills of students across the state. The contest will focus on a sales presentation given by a team of 2-4 students to a panel of judges, as well as a written exam and the development of marketing material. Every project entered, which can be constructed by any member(s) of the club/chapter, will be “for sale” to the general public. Top placing teams in the competition will see their project auctioned off at a live auction on Sunday, February 26th.
Landscape Skillathon- The Landscape Skillathon will build upon the interest and success of the other offered skillathons (Beef, Horse, Meat, Sheep, Swine). This hands on and interactive competition challenges exhibitors regarding their knowledge of landscape design concepts. Elements will include a written exam, identification and skill stations on topics such as plant identification, fertilizer information, landscape design as well as insect and disease identification. This contest will be held Saturday, February 18th in the Cattle Barn Arena.
Youth Rodeo Finals- On Wednesday, February 15, following Team Roping, we will host our first-ever Youth Rodeo Finals. The top 10 contestants in the 16-18 age division of each event will compete head-to-head for a chance at a $10,000 scholarship. The Youth Rodeo is February 13-15 and will take place in the Horse Show Arena (Expo Hall) starting at 8 a.m. each morning.
No matter what your favorite music genre is, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo provides entertainment for everyone. Country artists Aaron Watson, Chris Janson, Cody Johnson, Maddie & Tae and Sam Hunt will be making their first appearances at the 2017 Rodeo. Joining them, female pop group Fifth Harmony will also be making their first debut. The Rodeo is excited to have some returning acts to the stage as well. Huey Lewis & The News will be joining us for the first time since 1996, along with Willie Nelson & Family who last performed in 2007. The Shops at the Rodeo are home to over 250 themed retailers who come to show off their wares in three climate controlled venues.We have invited 18 new vendors from near and far, from wallets you can wear to fancy footwear for your horse. Don’t worry, 90% of our vendors will be returning with all of your favorite things. Shops will offer home furnishings, accessories, leather goods, agricultural related items, equipment, custom boots, clothing and jewelry. While you’re visiting the Shops at the Rodeo, be sure to rate your favorite shop on our interactive app!
Food and Beverage
In our Family Fair area, we will be expanding our food court with Van De Walle Fajita Corral directly in the middle. Included in our expansion will be four new food vendors: Chuckies, Concessions Inc., La Mejico Bakery and Hoop’s Fun Foods. Chuckies is a Midwest favorite whose specialty is pork tenderloin sandwiches. If you are wanting something healthy and satisfying, Concessions Inc. will have a new twist on smoothies. You’ll be able to enjoy drinking your smoothie from a fruit! La Mejico Bakery is a food truck that is bringing authentic baked goods. Lastly, Hoop’s Fun Foods will be serving gourmet pretzels and open face burgers.
We are excited to introduce our Craft Beer Tap Room, presented by H-E-B. The tap room will offer craft beers from breweries located throughout the state and live music. It will be located in between the main entrance to the grounds and the carnival.

With all of our new attractions, we expect to see many new guests as well as familiar faces. We recommend that you plan your trip ahead of time so that you have the opportunity to see each event! There are 3 secured parking lots located off the grounds that will offer shuttle services. Gembler Lot is located a half mile northeast from the AT&T Center. The shuttle from Gembler will drop guests off at Gate E inside the grounds. Wheatley Heights is a new parking lot that offers a 700–space, paved lot with a shuttle that will deliver guests to the front of the Freeman Coliseum. Crossroads is located 11 miles from the grounds that will offer guests a ride to the grounds. If you would prefer to park on the grounds, there are several lots available. Be sure to arrive early for these parking lots are first-come, first-serve.
